Vitamin B6, also known as Pyridoxine, like any other B vitamin helps the body to transform food into energy, and to break down proteins and fats. This vitamin is important for developing a healthy brain, and it’s particularly important during pregnancy and infancy, when vitamin B6 has an important role in brain development and immune system development.
Vitamin B6 deficiency is rare, but when it does happen, symptoms of deficiency include weak immune system, anemia and itchy rashes. Very low level of vitamin B6 can cause depression and confusion.
Some of the best sources of vitamin B6 are fish, turkey, potato, banana, tofu and other soy products.
